The Georges Méliès School is the school of animation, special effects, and video games. When their communication service calls us to ask us to redo their website, we think it’s a great challenge. What do they want? For their site to look like no other! And we understand them. The Georges Méliès School has a unique artistic universe. The site must therefore serve both as a presentation of the different courses and as a reflection of the quality of its teaching.

Understanding the identity of the school and transforming it into a graphic identity

We thus dive into the universe of the École Georges Méliès. Its founder, Franck Petitta, was a sculptor. For him, 3D animation must be inspired by craftsmanship, and students should learn drawing before discovering 3D. Georges Méliès was a director and illusionist, considered one of the creators of the first film tricks. His universe is whimsical and poetic. It's an opportunity for us to unleash all our creative energy! Like web page sculptors, we are a source of advice and support to bring out the school’s identity in the site. In the background, one can hint at a moon, one of the flagship symbols of Georges Méliès, which grows larger as navigation progresses. The background of the site is slightly gray, like drawing paper. When scrolling, it feels like a brush stroke. Even the mouse is unique, shaped like a small dot that seems to wander everywhere. Our client is enthusiastic; he embraces our creative proposals.

An animated site and an atypical navigation

To create a dynamic site (like an animation school), we insert a gif at the top of each page of the site. These small characters or animals, often funny, are creations of the students. This also helps to showcase the school's work. And we've thought of everything to make the updating or refreshing of these gifs very easy.

Another distinguishing element of the site: the immersive scroll. Let us explain. The idea is to take the user by the hand and guide them to show them all the content. The only movement to make is to scroll. And we navigate within the site without needing to click. It is truly a unique navigation very different from other sites. And it also allows the school to ensure that the visitor goes through all the pages without skipping important content. From a technical point of view, it is a virtual scroll: a scrolling effect recreated in JavaScript to allow for this innovative navigation.

The client is given the keys to their site.

Today, the Georges Méliès School has a website on which it can very easily take control. This was one of its priorities: to be able to update the content or add new training programs. By using WordPress, we give our client a real ease of use. We provide access to free blocks (title, text, illustration) to compose a new page as they wish.

Technically, all of this is a challenge because there is a lot of content to integrate. Everything needs to be well structured to be easily readable. And the pages must load quickly. At the agency, we know how to manage this density of content very well. In fact, what we do is that we only load into the DOM (the programming interface) the elements visible at the moment on the site. This greatly lightens the page, and it loads in an instant.
