The online showcase of a world-renowned designer

Jean-Louis Deniot is one of the greatest interior architects of our time. Present in the Top 100 AD of architects and designers, he has the art of creating atmospheres, mixing materials and textures. His color palettes are subtle. His lighting is always impeccable. In order to highlight his iconic interiors, Jean-Louis Deniot wishes to revamp his website. The specifications are simple but immensely demanding: this site must be an extension of his work. To offer a browsing experience that immerses the user in the designer's creative universe.

An optimized site that consumes few resources

For us, this site is a source of pride from two perspectives. First, because it showcases a creator whose craftsmanship we admire. Second, because it aligns with the eco-design approach of Agency 148: the site uses a new tool called EcoBuilder that we worked on for two years. Specifically, EcoBuilder generates all the pages of the site at a given moment, to then deliver them in a static manner. This method reduces daily energy costs and significantly speeds up the page loading times.

"Technically, having an eco-design approach requires stepping off the beaten path. Generating static files is a new way of working, of making the front and back office interact."

Thomas, Developer 148 Collective Agency

Beyond the use of our Ecobuilder, we push the idea of reducing resource consumption even further by creating reusable free blocks throughout the site. A block can be, for example, a portrait image, a landscape image, a frame with two images, or a block of text. Each page consists of an arrangement of these blocks. This method offers a major advantage: it gives the client great flexibility for the future. They can, in a simple and autonomous way, evolve their site, adding pages to showcase new creations, for example.

Priority to design and light

A site with a reduced environmental impact does not mean a site without artistic creativity. On the contrary. And Jean-Louis Deniot's site is proof of that. It is even the client's priority: that his site be beautiful. Jean-Louis Deniot's projects are always very bright, and Gaétan, our creative director, wants to highlight this light. When you arrive on the homepage and scroll, it feels like a window opening into the creative universe of Jean-Louis Deniot. We also play with color palettes: on certain pages, the background color is the average color of the images on the page. Finally, thanks to blending modes, some typefaces are embedded in the visuals to prioritize the image's color and thereby enhance the lighting.

"It’s exciting to exchange ideas with someone like Jean-Louis Deniot, realizing that our work must be an extension of his vision."

Gaétan, Creative Director, 148 Agence Collective

The browsing experience is immersive. And it gives a feeling of infinity. On the Projects page, we set up a mosaic display mode option that gives the impression that Jean-Louis Deniot’s work never stops, that you can wander infinitely through this grid. For this, we use WebGL, a recent technology that opens new graphic horizons. With visual effects of perspective that approach 3D and make the site less uniform and more immersive.

Animations at the heart of the browsing experience

Throughout the navigation, the user is guided by the hand. With a simple scroll movement, the visitor is guided on the site. And almost everything that appears on the site comes to life. Images scroll from right to left or from left to right and cross paths. Elements appear and disappear, typographies change in size, and text provides details about a project when the mouse hovers over it.

"Planning such an animated site is a beautiful challenge: the entire fluidity of the site relies on the developer."

Mélina, Developer, 148 Agence Collective

Moreover, when reaching the bottom of a page, the scroll suggests automatically transitioning to another page. This requires us to work on internal linking. We are collaborating with the teams of Jean-Louis Deniot on the logic of the navigation experience. The goal is to have a certain control over this experience by redirecting the user to the most appropriate page. From the World page, we are redirected to the Contact page. From the Contact page to the Projects page.

Features: a site for the client AND for the collaborators

In order to facilitate the work of Jean-Louis Deniot's teams, we also create several features that are very useful to them on a daily basis. The first is the PDF generation. They are given access to a pre-built document template with different types of slides (different types of image formats or text boxes). Thanks to this template, which automatically maintains the visual identity of the site, they can create personalized presentations for a client in PDF format.

"This website is also a tool that saves a lot of time for Jean-Louis Deniot's teams, especially when they have a presentation to make."

Christy, Project Manager, 148 Agence Collective

The client can either receive this presentation by email or access it via a private area, for which the site generates a password. With this Private functionality, as soon as a file is affiliated with this password, the file switches to a private server and, therefore, unlike other files created on WordPress, it is no longer indexed on Google. Jean-Louis Deniot's website is thus much more than a showcase; it is modular over time and constitutes a working tool for Jean-Louis Deniot's teams. That is also what makes a sustainable website.
