Context
IKEA and its INTER IKEA subsidiary were opening a new store in the west of the country, in Fleury-sur-Orne in the Caen region. This was an ambitious project in terms of sustainable development and one that involved creating a pleasant living environment showcasing a number of green spaces at the site. There was also an emphasis on integrating those in difficulty, in partnership with the ANPE, and on providing access to the site to those with disabilities in conjunction with associations such as Handicap Mieux Vivre.
The Ikea BRIEF
IKEA was looking to create a series of educational documents aimed at a target audience that did not necessarily have any specialist knowledge of architectural projects of this sort of scale as part of the official presentation of the project to local elected representatives.
148’s contribution
Consultancy
Artistic direction and support 7 days a week
The presentation to elected representatives was a major milestone in this call for tenders, in light of which we took care of the artistic direction and supported IKEA at this busy time by remaining at its disposal 7 days a week for the duration of the project to enable it to meet the very short deadlines involved.
Design
A vector illustration of the building
The graphics studio produced a vector illustration along with five large boards.
When it came to producing the educational documents, 148 worked in partnership with the IKEA group’s construction and development department and the INTER IKEA Centre Group, as well as architectural firm Guérin Pedroza and sustainable development strategic consultancy agency Utopies.
The 148 graphics studio created a very accurate vector illustration suitable for all print formats to depict the building within its environment.
This technology allows for greater creative freedom than architectural software tends to whilst at the same time increasing the reliability of the approach.
publishing
A sustainable development charter
We took the various documents relating to sustainable development and put together an actual charter in conjunction with IKEA and our own editorial team with a view to developing the project further. All of this was done with the usual care and keen eye for detail of which our editors can be proud, produced in record time and printed on recycled paper with our partner Imprim’Vert.
A pencil sketch
A pencil-drawn illustration to add a touch of warmth.
A custom-designed box
An elegant packaging solution to present all of the relevant documents and the materials we had created in a high-quality hand-crafted box bearing a white embossed inscription.
